It’s only been open for a couple of years, yet I FINALLY got there! Vancouver Urban Winery in the newer district of Railtown (east of Gastown), was one of the few who started the trend of pouring local BC wines on TAP!
It’s not a restaurant but a Wine & Cheese lounge shall we say. Think wine warehouse, with a cool atmosphere, Lofty, with a little shop to buy wine or condiments to go with the wine; a bar in which you can chat it up with the staff; or long tables and loungey furniture and a fireplace to hang out with friends. You’ll enjoy a great choice of local BC wines on tap along with the option of doing a tasting flight and even adding a cheese and charcuterie platter to match.
The pricing is typical for BC wines really (not $5 per glass unfortunately), but it’s fresh from the barrel which is very cool, especially for your visiting friends and family. The cheese and meat choice is not the best value, although tasty, so don’t expect a large portion. But at least you have the option.
It’s a cool place to take friends, so head there on a Friday night if you can, or you can plan a special group for a Saturday night. So if you aren’t able to make it to the Okanagan, head to Vancouver Urban Winery!
