Belgard kitchen in Railtown

I’m all about ambiance in any space, whether a restaurant, Cafe, hotel or even a store. It contributes to my overall experience, and emotional satisfaction.  So when I walked into Belgard Kitchen/Urban Winery in Railtown – I was a happy person.  Especially on a rainy and slightly cool evening. It’s a cozy restaurant with high and low tables amidst the winery and brewery, there is soft light and lots of wood. There is a ‘to-go’ window at the entrance where you can fill or buy a growler of beer, and then once inside it’s all about the wine and menu.

IMG_4692Recently, I met a friend for some sharing plates and some wine, the food and service was just as nice as the atmosphere. We ordered the Speck & Asparagus with shaved Manchego cheese on top (warning, you may fight for your share); Rock Shrimp Ceviche with tortilla chips – sooo refreshing, this is why I love ceviche! The food was very good and portions not bad for the price. We also shared an order of meatballs in a simple tomato sauce (not as spectacular as the other two dishes, but still good).

IMG_4691For wine, it is predominately a BC wine menu, so although I’m a fan of Le Vieux Pin wines out of Oliver, BC, I opted to try something different. My first glass of wine was a Syrah from Nichol Vineyards in Naramata and my last was the ‘Celestiale’ from Clos du Soleil in the Similkameen Valley. Both a lovely expression of well-made BC wine.

Definitely a great place for lunch or dinner or just for a wine tasting!
