3 out of 5 stars!
Salt & Brick, I like this restaurant, it’s got charm & a great location in downtown Kelowna, BC in the Okanagan Valley Wine Region. The menu is full of dishes meant to be shared and it’s creative and tasty with a West Coast fusion of flavours. And they do have a good wine list. Although It’s all BC focused (which I am not a huge fan of); it’s in Wine Country so of course it makes sense they are going to show off what’s available around them! They do have a nice variety of wine producers and varietals to choose from.
Their bottles start at $45 and go up to $100+, although the majority sits in the $45-$70 range. And they offer a decent selection of wine by the glass.
So, I give them 3 stars out of 5 for their Wine List. Why? They could jazz up their list (and especially the bubbles selection) & get creative with the varietals. It didn’t “excite” me, and I think they are playing it safe with their list.
Here’s my rating system & why:
Have you ever dined at a restaurant and loved the food and hated the wine? Or loved the wine, but the food didn’t hit the mark? I have. So I am always on a quest to find the gems out there with both great wine and food & owners or wine directors who are thinking creatively.
Here’s what I use to determine my rating out of 5 stars:
I look at the selection: BC focused and/or a mix of Int’l producers
What kind of varietals are offered
Price point by the glass
Price point by the bottle
Creative list of producers
This is of course based on my taste, and from my experience as a customer and a wine professional.
I hope you find my fun new way of writing and sharing about my restaurant adventures!
Keep exploring, Cheers!
