This bottle of Kapua Sauvignon Blanc surprised me! 🤩

I thought I’d try something new (to me) from New Zealand 🇳🇿 – and wow. Kapua Sauvignon Blanc was a definite yes! 🙌🏻

If you’re used to the more familiar, intensely aromatic style of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, don’t expect quite the same profile from this wine.

Kapua is leaner and beautifully refreshing, with two distinctive notes that really stood out to me: gooseberry and lemon-lime citrus. You may also pick up hints of lemongrass and tropical fruit, but they remain subtle, allowing the wine’s lovely balance and juicy acidity to shine.

Interestingly, Kapua means “cloud” in Māori. It’s a fitting name for a wine from New Zealand – Aotearoa is commonly translated as “land of the long white cloud.”

Because this New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is a little different, I wanted to pair it with an equally interesting dish. And what a delicious choice: Turkey & Zucchini Enchiladas. 👩‍🍳💋

The savoury flavours and acidity of the Kapua Sauvignon Blanc worked beautifully with the enchiladas, making this a pairing I’d happily make again.

If you enjoy Sauvignon Blanc and are looking to explore Sauvignon Blanc from different regions, I think Kapua is worth seeking out. It’s refreshing, delightfully savoury and offers a slightly different expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
