Argentina is famous for its Malbec, but there’s so much more to explore in the country’s wine regions. One of the interesting ways to discover Argentine wine is through blends that bring together familiar favourites and varieties that offer something a little different.
La Celia’s Reserva Malbec–Cabernet Franc blend offers an opportunity to explore this combination, with Malbec’s generous dark fruit character complimented by the aromatic, savoury qualities of Cabernet Franc.
Discovering La Celia and Argentina’s Uco Valley
Located in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, at the foothills of the Andes, Finca La Celia is part of a wine region known for its high-altitude vineyards and distinctive growing conditions.

The vineyards are situated at approximately 980 to 1,100 metres (3,215 to 3,609 feet) above sea level. At these elevations, sunny days and cooler nights can help grapes develop flavour while retaining freshness and acidity.
Have you been to this region? Because from what I read, the dramatic mountain landscape and high-altitude terroir have helped make the Uco Valley one of Argentina’s most exciting wine-producing areas to explore. Sign me up! ;)
What to Expect from a Malbec–Cabernet Franc Blend
Malbec and Cabernet Franc each bring something different to a blend.
Malbec is known for its dark fruit profile, often showcasing blackberry, black cherry and plum, along with a rich texture and approachable character.
Cabernet Franc can contribute fresh acidity, aromatic complexity and savoury notes, including herbs and pepper, along with structure and elegance.
Together, the varieties can create a red wine that is balanced, offers a generous fruit profile, and still have that freshness and complexity. I have to admit, I really enjoyed this wine, it was relaxing and very smooth.
For food pairings, I did a little google search for good food pairings and it suggested grilled steak, roasted lamb, autumn pasta dishes or roasted seasonal vegetables. I made a fresh home made roasted squash, kale, chicken and pasta dish – and it worked quite nicely!
La Celia’s Reserva Malbec-Cabernet Franc is a reminder that there is always something new to explore in the world of wine, especially when you look beyond a single grape variety and discover the regions and growing conditions behind the wine.
For wine lovers who enjoy learning about the stories behind their bottles, Argentina’s Uco Valley is certainly a region worth keeping on the radar.
I hope you’ll search out this wine to give it a try. You’ll find this NEW exclusive listing at BC Liquor stores at under $25. That’s incredible value for such a lovely wine!
Until next time, keep exploring one sip and trip at a time.
Cheers, Donita
